John Garrison was elected on 3 May 2023 to Commander, Post 40 Avondale, AZ the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America.  He also serves as Arizona Department Representative on the National Resolution Committee, District Recruiter and Asst. District Inspector. John first began his service to the VFW as Post 40 Chaplain.

John served in the United States Army from 1983 to 2015, earning his VFW eligibility by serving in Korea twice and Iraq four times. In recognition of his service, he received (1) Legion of Merit (3) Bronze Star Medals, (1) Defense Meritorious Service Medal (5) Meritorious Service Medals (1) Joint Commendation Medal and many other Medals, Awards and Commendations. John is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 58.

John joined the VFW in April 1997 at Severn, MD. Currently he maintains his Gold Legacy Life membership at Post 40, Avondale, AZ. John is on his third consecutive year as Commander for Post 40. Post 40 was awarded "All State Post” and "All American Post” for 2024-2025. 

John is a master communicator, mentor and currently the Director of Field Operations for First Impression Iroworks in Gilbert, AZ

John has a Master Degree in Adult Education, PMP and SHRM certifications. He is a life member of our VFW National Home, and a member of American Legion, Post 61, Avondale, AZ.  John’s lovely Spouse KaTrina, is a Dietician in Avondale. His son Benjamin also a VFW life member, lives in Georgia.
