William S. Owens
Quartermaster, Pat Tillman Memorial VFW Post 40
William S. Owens is a highly decorated combat veteran and dedicated community leader currently serving as the Quartermaster for VFW Post 40 (Pat Tillman Memorial) in Avondale, Arizona.
Military & Civil Service
William served 20.5 years in the U.S. Army (1970–1990). His deployments included Germany, Japan, Korea, and a combat tour in Vietnam (1970–1971). For his valor and meritorious service, he was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal, among numerous other decorations. After his military retirement, Williamattended Glendale Community College and spent 22 years as a Budget Analyst for the IRS Criminal Investigation Division.
Veteran Leadership
Since joining VFW Post 40 in 2018, William has utilized his extensive financial background to strengthen the post. He served as Quartermaster (2018–2022, 2024–Present) and Senior Vice Commander (2022–2023), achieving prestigious All-American status. He is a Gold Legacy Life Member of the VFW, a Life Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, and a member of the American Legion.
Personal Life
William resides in Arizona with his wife, Janice, who is also a VFW Gold Legacy Life Member. They share a proud family legacy with three children, eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
